Even though I have been to Siena before, I had forgotten how hilly the city is. There are cliffs and serious climbs everywhere. We did a pretty good day, knocking off 20kms by 12:45 to arrive in Siena for lunch with Merran's friend Jen and her friend Georgio. Merran received the call to meet 1/2 way up the last big climb to the city.
It was great having a local guide in Georgio, who was able to give us background on the city, the churches, Catherine of Siena, the politics and also of the drama of the annual horse race around the piazza. We enjoyed a lunch of local specialities and then got dropped near the covent we are staying at this evening.
